Patrick McNamara

First VP, Wealth Manager

Patrick McNamara, CFP® came to financial planning the way many advisors do — with a genuine belief that people deserve better. After launching his career at Fidelity and Goldman Sachs and spending 19 years building a successful practice at Morgan Stanley, he joined Claro Advisors to do things differently.

Today, Patrick works primarily with retirees, pre-retirees, high earners, and business owners — helping them navigate the years where the stakes are highest. His work centers on three things: predictable retirement income, meaningful tax reduction, and helping protect portfolios from the kind of losses that set people back.

Patrick holds a BS in Business Administration from SUNY Oswego and an MBA from Boston College's Carroll School of Management. He lives in Scituate, MA with his wife Kerry and their three children.

FAQs

Common Questions

What types of clients do you work with?

Patrick works primarily with retirees, pre-retirees, high earners, and business owners — typically those with $100,000 or more in investable assets. His clients are smart, family-oriented people who have worked hard to build their wealth and want a trusted advisor to help them protect it, grow it, and make it last.

Are you a fiduciary?

Yes, Claro Advisors is a fee-only, fiduciary RIA — which means we're compensated only by our clients, never by commissions or product sales. Our fees are based on assets under management, and that fee covers comprehensive financial planning, investment management, and ongoing access to your advisor. Additional costs may apply, including custodial fees, fund-level expenses, or third-party manager fees, depending on your portfolio. Patrick will walk you through the full fee structure in our first conversation. Our full fee schedule is described in our Form ADV Part 2A, available at https://adviserinfo.sec.gov/firm/summary/160294 or upon request.

What does your planning process look like?

It starts with a no-pressure discovery call to understand your goals. From there, Patrick builds a written financial plan covering all key areas — retirement income, investments, tax strategy, estate planning, and more. Plans are stored on a secure portal and updated as your life evolves.

What makes your investment approach different?

Patrick focuses on three things: minimizing taxes, limiting downside risk, and keeping costs low. He uses defined outcome strategies, structured notes, and buffered ETFs alongside low-cost index strategies — tools that go beyond the standard playbook to address what each client actually needs.

Services and Scope: Claro Advisors provides investment management and financial planning services. References to tax planning describe general financial planning considerations only and do not constitute tax advice. References to retirement income planning describe financial planning strategies designed to support retirement objectives and do not guarantee any specific income level or outcome. Clients should consult a qualified tax professional or attorney for tax return preparation, legal matters, or jurisdiction-specific guidance.

Investment Risk: All investing involves risk, including the potential loss of principal. Past performance does not guarantee future results. There is no guarantee that any investment strategy or financial plan will achieve its objectives. Actual results will vary depending on individual circumstances.

Tax Outcomes: Tax strategies and tax-aware planning approaches are intended to seek opportunities to improve after-tax outcomes. Tax results are not guaranteed and will vary based on each client's individual tax situation, applicable law, and other factors outside the adviser's control. Clients should consult a tax professional regarding their specific circumstances.

Structured and Defined Outcome Strategies: This microsite references defined outcome strategies, structured notes, and buffered ETFs. These instruments involve specific risk/return profiles that differ materially from traditional investments. Key characteristics and risks include: (1) Return caps — defined outcome strategies and buffered ETFs typically limit upside participation to a specified cap; (2) Buffer limits — downside protection applies only within a defined buffer range and does not protect against losses beyond that range; (3) Liquidity constraints — structured notes and certain defined outcome products may have limited secondary market liquidity and may not be redeemable prior to maturity without penalty; (4) Counterparty risk — structured notes are subject to the credit risk of the issuing institution; (5) Fees and expenses — these instruments may carry higher costs than traditional index strategies. These strategies are not suitable for all investors. Suitability depends on individual investment objectives, time horizon, risk tolerance, and financial circumstances.

Financial Planning: Financial planning and goal-based strategies are designed to help clients work toward their objectives. Engaging in planning does not guarantee any specific financial outcome. Results depend on many factors, including market conditions, individual behavior, and circumstances that cannot be predicted or controlled.
